The repair is finished and the gold has been fired. My mini ceramic plaque can now hang next to Manolo on the pinboard in my studio. I'm sure he would agree with the sentiment on it. And while we're on the subject of Manolo Blahnik, there have been a couple of times when friends have made 'helpful' suggestions about the direction I should take my shoes in. Twice I have had people say to me that I should make ceramic copies of Manolo shoes..."Why?" I wondered. If someone wants a Manolo shoe then surely they would just buy a Manolo shoe and, as I said to the second person, "I'm sure Manolo Blahnik would not be too happy if I ripped off his designs, just as I would not be too happy if he ripped off mine!" I will write of 'Stealing Like an Artist' in a later post.
Finally I've included this picture because it brings me back to Kintsugi. "...when something's suffered damage and has a history, it becomes more beautiful." Also the photo is of the beautiful Daphne Self, still modelling in her 80s.
